About Oranjerivier South African Wine
South Africa is among the oldest of the 'New World' wine regions and has a proud heritage for making superb quality wines, poised between the new world and the old world styles.
The Orange River is one of Africa's great rivers and along its Northern Cape bank lie large wine producing vineyards. Abundant sunshine and the blending of the finest fruit produces some of the country's best-known and most popular wines.
The wine grapes of Oranjerivier Wine Cellars orginate from 930 producers all along the Orange River and is the largest wine co-operative in South Africa winning a large number of national and international awards. We are at the cutting edge of what is happening within the wine industry in South Africa and fast developing a reputation as one of the most innovative wineries in South Africa. The available expertise, supported by good planning, mutual co-operation and dynamic vineyard and cellar management provides for the constant supply of our top quality wines.
We are particularly proud of our Pinotage, South Africa's 'own' grape variety which was created in South Africa in 1925 and is very difficult to grow successfully. Pinotage is the result of a cross between the Pinot Noir and Cinsault or Hermitage grape varieties, hence the name 'Pinotage'.
Our stunning award winning Pinotage is a regular award winner and our long hot summers contribute to the resultant high sugars and spicy flavour of this delicate wood matured, medium bodied red.
Oranjerivier Wine Cellars offer an extensive range of piquant white wines, fruity reds and sweet rose wines...we hope you will enjoy them all! |
